JONATHAN IS A MULTI-AWARD WINNING PRODUCER, DIRECTOR, AND WRITER WHOSE FILMS HAVE WON OVER 150 AWARDS SINCE 2011. KNOWN FOR STYLISH, SLICKLY PRODUCED PRODUCTIONS, HE HAS ALWAYS HAD AN EYE FOR THE FANTASTIC AND FOR BRINGING TO LIFE WORLDS UNSEEN.
A born creative, Jonathan Martin was raised in Houston, Texas before moving to Utah in his teens. A multi-sport athlete growing up, his true talents were found in the creative arts. After completing his Bachelors in Business from Utah Valley University, Jonathan dove head first into the world of filmmaking and hasn’t looked back since. Apart from directing and producing multiple award winning films, he also founded the genre festival FilmQuest, which has quickly become one of the biggest genre festivals in the country. Apart from living in Texas and Utah, he has also lived in England and Wales, and in 2017 began traveling extensively for other business pursuits in Saudi Arabia.
Three film projects released as the dark fantasy short film Kiss the Devil in the Dark, and the music videos Demons and Gravity are released. Starring Doug Jones (Star Trek, Hellboy), Kiss is an epic tale of sorcerers and demons, with dazzling makeup design and VFX. Gravity is a love tale set against a colorful space backdrop, while Demons continues to build upon the mythology found in the world of the Comatose Mother.
Creatures of Whitechapel premieres at the world famous Sitges Film Festival in Oscar Qualifying Competition. Redefining the characters of Jack the Ripper and Dr. Frankenstein, the film is a colorful, often erotic ode to gothic horror and the madness that surround all creation. The film has played in over 40 festivals and won over 35 awards to date.
FilmQuest is formed. Celebrating the majesty and might of genre cinema, FilmQuest would quickly gain recognition throughout the industry, twice since its inception named a MovieMaker Magazine Top 50 Film Festival Worth the Entry Fee, along with being one of FilmFreeway’s Top 100 Reviewed Film Festivals. With events, awards, and parties that serves all avenues of the industry, FilmQuest has become an essential festival stop for genre filmmakers. Jonathan is not only its founder, but also serves as the Festival Director.
A romantic fairy tale, the video for I’ll Always Be Young is released. While still showcasing Jonathan’s penchant for the Fantastic, it also allowed for further genre exploration as the video tells a love story set across three stunning landscapes and a man’s quest to discover the proverbial fountain of youth.
Electric Light, Jonathan’s first music video, debuts. Infusing a love for 80’s pop culture and sci-fi, with the electronic beats of Muscle Hawk’s dance worthy single, the video would win several awards while also allowing Jonathan to diversify his portfolio and prove he’s more than just a horror filmmaker.
An Evening with My Comatose Mother, the “Mother of All Shorts,” premieres and proceeds to carve a path previously unheard of for a horror short film. Stylish, energetic, and humorously playing with horror cliches, the film would play over 100 film festivals and win 76 awards, setting the record as the most awarded horror short film of all-time and announcing Jonathan’s arrival as a director to watch.
I Am from Nowhere premieres. Jonathan’s first directing and producing effort, the film is a documentary short that explore the little known history of the persecuted Lemko-Rusyn people of the Carpathian Mountains.
Graduation from Utah Valley University with a B.S. in Business Management Entrepreneurship Emphasis. The degree allows for Jonathan to focus on the business side of filmmaking and production, while also catering it to the creative needs of Bohemian Industries.
